City of Malmö

aarstidernaThe City of Malmö is well-known as a cutting edge sustainable city. Much of the success is due its unique and very constructive culture of public-private partnerships. The city of Malmö commissioned Vagga till Vagga to provide a study over biochar production. Much of the green waste from the city's many parks could potentially be used to produce energy and biochar, but the field is new and technology maturing. Our conclusion was that it is fully possible, and that there are several potential providers of the right technolgy. Among several interesting potential providers we find the project Black Carbon by Aarstiiderne.

Cradle to Cradle collections

Early 2010 we initiated and supported a working group consisting of four designers wanting to bring Cradle to Cradle-design into their work. The result: some of the world's first collections of clothes with C2C-certified materials, design at the end of their life to either become soil again (biological cycle) or to be re-introduced into industrial cycles as high-quality materials without losing its original properties. Most notably, Swedish designers Matilda Wendelboe and Bonkeli design has gotten a lot of attention for these collections.

Vagga till Vagga was asked to contribute with a vision for the future beyone what has been achieved to date. We painted a picture inspired by Cradle to Cradle and eco-effectiveness. Note that "Design for dissasembly", an important feature of Cradle to Cradle design, was practically invented by IKEA...! Read our chapter here .
